An Easter grid with six Dutch words in it

The shortest word on this sheet is two letters long. EI is the egg, and after that the hunt stretches out: TULP for the tulip, VEER for the feather, LINT for the ribbon, REGENBOOG for the rainbow and KONIJNTJE for the little bunny. All six are hidden in the letter grid alongside their pictures, some running across, some straight down.

KONIJNTJE carries a piece of Dutch worth noticing. A rabbit is a konijn; add -tje and it becomes a small one, a bunny. Dutch does this constantly, and a child who meets the ending here will start hearing it everywhere. REGENBOOG is just as literal — regen is rain, boog is an arch — so the Dutch rainbow turns out to be built from exactly the same two pieces as the English one.

Easter week is long, and there are only so many eggs to decorate. This is the quiet twenty minutes in the middle of it, at the table, in a language your child is picking up in small doses. Print one each for a group and let them race nobody. Afterwards, hide the real ei somewhere and ask for it in Dutch — the word will come back faster than you expect.
