PAPUKAIJA does not double anything but strings four short syllables together instead. In a grid, doubled letters are a gift: they make a distinctive shape, and a child soon learns to sweep the rows looking for the pattern rather than reading every letter.

PELIKAANI and PINGVIINI are the two a child will guess correctly without help, since both are near cousins of the English. VARPUNEN and HAIKARA are the genuinely new ones, and the ones worth saying aloud a few times before the search starts. This is a second bird sheet, so it suits a child who has already met a first set and wants birds that are less obvious than a chicken.
