Italian words for what a child actually does all week

This grid hides six Italian words for things to do: SCRIVERE, SALTARE, NUOTO, PESCA, CICLISMO and GINNASTICA. The pictures show writing, jumping, swimming, fishing, biking and gymnastics. Your child picks a picture, finds the Italian word that goes with it in the list, then hunts that word down across a row or down a column and draws a ring round it. Six answers in total, each one in a straight line.

Two of these are verbs, and they end the way Italian verbs do: SCRIVERE, to write, and SALTARE, to jump. The other four are naming words. That difference deserves a sentence out loud, because a child who notices the -ARE and -ERE endings has picked up something they will lean on for years. PESCA and NUOTO run to five letters apiece and go quickly; GINNASTICA is the longest answer here at ten.

Use it alongside a PE or swimming lesson, when the actions are fresh in the body as well as the head. Nothing is timed. Reading each word aloud while circling it beats searching in silence, and miming the action as you say it beats that. Print a copy each if two children are working, so neither is left waiting on the other's pencil. There is nothing to hand in at the end.
