Tree names in Italian, and three the sheet leaves in English

A tree sheet with an honest mixture on it. PERA and LIMONE are the Italian names for the pear and the lemon; BAOBAB is spelled the same in both languages. Three more — REDBUD, SPRUCE and SYCAMORE — appear under their English names, which is worth pointing out rather than glossing over. All six are hidden in the letter grid. The picture beside each shows which tree is meant, so the search itself is straightforward.

For vocabulary, then, treat PERA and LIMONE as the two that matter. Both are fruit words as much as tree words, and both follow the pattern most Italian nouns keep: PERA ends in -a and LIMONE in -e, and that ending tells an Italian speaker how the rest of the sentence has to agree. Your child does not need the grammar yet, only the ear for it.

It is a good sheet for a walk that has already happened — come back from the park, print it, and see which of the six anyone can remember seeing. BAOBAB is the one children go for first: six letters, three of them B, and impossible to miss in a grid. Leave PERA until last, since four letters disappear easily among the filler. There is no timer, so the order is entirely your child's to choose.
