Reading Comprehension: The Lost Boot
This reading comprehension worksheet is built around the original story The Lost Boot. Ben's left boot has vanished — it is not under the bed, not behind the door — until his dog Rex trots in carrying it in his mouth, and the day ends in a hug and a plan to go puddle-jumping. Three multiple-choice questions follow the story; the child reads, circles the best answers, and returns to the text to settle any doubts.
A story with a tiny mystery gives comprehension questions real teeth. The first question checks the basic frame — what is actually being looked for — and the second springs the trap this story sets on purpose: Ben does the searching, but Rex does the finding, so 'who finds the boot?' catches every reader who matched the question to the busiest character instead of the right one. The third question looks forward — what will Ben do next? — which sends the child back to the closing line about puddles and asks them to read for what is coming, not just what happened. Search, twist, and what-comes-next: three questions, three genuinely different reading moves.
