Printable Math Puzzle worksheet about Dinosaurs for grade 1

What this sheet practises

Numbers on this sheet go up to 21, and 4 of 9 problems cross 10. That combination is what decides whether it fits your class this week. Filed under Grade 1, though the numbers here go above 20 — closer to Grade 2 or Year 3. In Grade 1 it suits children already secure within 20.

The nine problems on this sheet: 8 - 6, 16 - 13, 15 - 5, 18 - 14, 13 - 8, 18 - 12, 17 - 8, 21 - 14, 12 - 4.

How it checks itself

The picture is the check: it only completes when all nine answers are right. That is what makes the sheet work without an adult standing over it. Every sheet uses the same nine answers, 2 to 10. Some children will match by piece shape instead of calculating — asking them to read two facts aloud settles it.

Using it in class

Useful as cover or substitute work: the sheet corrects itself and the answer key is included, so an adult who does not know the class can run it.

The answer key lists all nine results, which is the quickest way to check the level before printing. Note that crossing 10 only comes up in the subtraction here; adding over ten does not appear on this type of sheet. The completed picture shows a dinosaurs scene.
