Danish words for the woods, hidden in a letter grid

A rucksack, a hammock and a squirrel: this sheet gathers the things you notice on a camping trip and gives each one its Danish name. RYGSÆK is the backpack, HÆNGEKØJE the hammock, EGERN the squirrel, GRANKOGLE a pine cone, FLOD a river and FRØ a frog. All six are buried in the letter grid, and all six have a picture on the word list, so the meaning never has to be guessed at.

GRANKOGLE and HÆNGEKØJE are the long ones, nine letters apiece, and they take real scanning to track down — which is rather the point. The shorter words FRØ and FLOD both open with F, so your child has to read past the first letter instead of pouncing on it. That habit, checking the whole word before circling, is the most useful thing a beginner can practise in an unfamiliar alphabet.
