The two Finnish berry words children always mix up

MANSIKKA and MUSTIKKA sit four letters apart and mean two quite different berries — strawberry and blueberry. Finnish children keep them apart by ear: MUSTIKKA opens like musta, the word for black, and blueberries really are nearly black by the time they are picked. Mention that before the search and a child has a way in. It is the only genuine trap on the page.

The rest of the list is easier going. GREIPPI, PAPAIJA and APRIKOOSI are English fruit names in Finnish clothing, spelled out the way a Finn would say them, and children usually recognise all three on sight. LUUMU, the plum, is the short one and often the first to be circled. The doubled K in both berry words is worth a second look, since Finnish sounds it twice. Six words, six pictures, one grid.
