How the weather feels in French — six words to find and circle

This sheet works a little differently, because not everything pictured is an object. Alongside a scarf, a puddle and a thermometer sit words for how a day feels. Your child looks through the letter grid for all six French words and circles them, leaning on the pictures to know what is being asked for. Nothing has to be spelled from scratch; the answers are all on the page already, and the picture list serves as the answer key as well.

CHAUD and FROID are the pair to learn first; hot and cold turn up in more French conversation than almost anything else a beginner meets. NUAGEUX ends in EUX, an ending French uses to turn a thing into a description of it, and that is worth a finger pointed at it. THERMOMÈTRE, at eleven letters, is the long haul. ÉCHARPE is the easiest of the object words to spot.

Print it at the start of a week and use the words for the actual weather each morning. That is the whole difference between a puzzle and a habit. FLAQUE, the puddle, tends to be the favourite, and the one a child will notice on the pavement first on the way to school. Nothing is timed and there is no score to chase.
