Name the things around the classroom in German

The six pictures are all things a child sees during a school day: a clock, a cabinet, a desk, a stapler, a globe and tape. Their German names are hidden in the grid. Because the objects are already in the room, a child can look up from the sheet and check the real thing, which turns the hunt into naming practice rather than a puzzle in the abstract.

UHR is three letters and vanishes inside a busy grid, so agreeing to leave the short words until last saves some frustration. SCHREIBTISCH is the opposite at twelve letters, and it splits neatly, SCHREIB from writing and TISCH a table. GLOBUS is near enough to English to be free. KLEBEBAND and HEFTER are the two that need saying out loud a few times.

This works well in the first week of a term, when the room and its contents are being talked about anyway. Pin it up afterwards with the circled words showing and the vocabulary keeps working for another week. If your child stalls, name the picture in English and let them find the German themselves. That step is the one doing the learning, and handing the answer over too early wastes the sheet and the ten quiet minutes that came with it.
