This Is Me: Label the Face

Kindergarten Vocabulary (readiness) PDF only Aligned standard — coming soon

Five words sit in a dashed bank at the top of this kindergarten page: mouth, hair, nose, eye, ear. Below it a large illustrated face of a child looks out from the middle of the sheet, with five orange dots on the hair, one eye, the nose, one ear and the mouth, and a line from each dot to a dashed handwriting box at the edge of the page. The child reads a word, finds the part it names, and copies the word into the box its line leads to. At the bottom a wide dashed box reads Now draw your own face.

Labeling a diagram is a skill in its own right, separate from knowing the words: the child has to follow a line from a dot to a box and put the word there, not next to the part itself. Because the five words are given, the reading load is light and the task is really about matching and copying. The drawn face is deliberately neutral, a small smile and nothing more, so that no feeling is being read. The teacher checks the eye and nose boxes, the two whose lines cross the face and can be mistaken for each other.

One portrait sheet, color helpful but not needed. The draw-your-own box at the bottom is the reward, and the labels can be reused on the child's own drawing. The all about me page has the self-portrait without labels, and the my name page is the family's other copying task. Reading a feeling off a face is the emotions worksheet family, not this page.
