Eight rows make up this 2nd grade page. Each shows one or two people, then the thing that belongs to them, then a sentence with a dashed gap: This is Jack. This is ... drum. Three chips reading his, her and their sit beneath. The sheet shown runs Jack with a drum, Eli with a train, Ava with a book, Lily and Emma with a dog, Zoe with a ball, Ben and Max with a hat, Mia and Leo with a kite, and Anna with a robot.
Possessives are the other half of the pronoun lesson and the half that is usually rushed, so this face keeps the frame identical across all eight rows and changes only the owner. Three rows have two owners, and those open with These are rather than This is, which is a second grammatical signal pointing at their. The mixed pair, a girl and a boy sharing a kite, is the row that stops a child sorting by the picture alone.
One sheet, eight rows, eight circles. The possessive frame is fixed so the page reads quickly, but the shared things are worth a sentence of talk — one hat between two people is their hat, and children often want to give it to whichever of them is nearer. This is the only possessive face in the pronouns family; the other five work on he, she and they.
