Regrouping Worksheet
Addition and Subtraction with Regrouping
This Grade 3 regrouping worksheet brings the column method up to full strength with six problems that all require carrying or borrowing. The addition problems come with carry boxes above the columns, giving the regrouped ten an official home instead of a squeezed-in scribble. The child works right to left — ones first, then tens — regrouping wherever a column overflows or comes up short.
Regrouping is where place value stops being a vocabulary word and starts being a tool. Carrying means recognizing that ten ones are worth one ten; borrowing means unbundling a ten back into ones — and a child who can do both, and explain why, genuinely understands how our number system works. The carry boxes matter more than they look: recording the regrouped digit in a fixed spot keeps working memory free for the arithmetic itself and makes every error easy to find and fix afterward.
The sheet prints free as a PDF and rewards a slow start: talk through the first problem out loud, then let the remaining five run on their own. If regrouping wobbles, column addition and subtraction without regrouping rebuilds the routine underneath; if it holds solid, times tables practice opens the next chapter of fluency.
