Logic Puzzle Worksheet
Two-Attribute Logic Puzzles: Two Pictures per Child
One puzzle fills this third-grade pets page, and it has three grids joined into an L. Across the top run three pets, a fish, a turtle and a rabbit, and then three fruits, a banana, an apple and a pear; down the side are Emma, Mia and Max, and below them the three fruits again. Every child has one pet and one fruit. Four clues sit above the grids, and one of them links the two sets: The child with the fish has the apple. The child fills all three grids, name to pet, name to fruit, and pet to fruit, and there is no answer strip; the ticks are the answer.
This is the real logic grid, the one found in puzzle books, cut down to three of everything. A linking clue is the new move: it says nothing about any child, only that two things go together, and the child has to carry that fact from the pet-fruit grid into the name grids once a name is pinned to one of them. The three grids must agree with each other at the end, which is a check the child can run alone. The teacher watches the third grid, the one with no names; it is where a child who has only ever done one-attribute puzzles stops marking.
One portrait sheet, color for the pictures. Have the child work the linking clue last the first time, then first the second time, and notice that both routes arrive at the same grid. The 4 by 4 page is the other third-grade face, with more children but one attribute, and the three clues, one answer page is the base this grows from.
