Logic Grid Puzzles with Yes, No and Either-Or Clues

Grade 2 Logical reasoning (readiness) PDF only Aligned standard — coming soon

The clues on this second-grade fruits page come in three kinds, and the instruction line names what each one does. Either a cherry or a strawberry belongs to Tom is an either-or clue: it crosses out the third fruit in Tom's row. The child with the strawberry is not Tom is a no clue: one cross. The pear belongs to Max is a yes clue: a tick, and crosses in the rest of that row and column. Two puzzles with three children each, one with three clues and one with two, share the page, and each has the answer strip underneath.

The base puzzles run on no clues alone; this face adds a clue that gives a fact outright and a clue that gives two possibilities, and the child has to know which mark each one earns before touching the grid. Either-or is the new idea. It does not say who has what, only what someone does not have, and turning or into a cross is a piece of reasoning most second graders have never been asked to write down. Every page carries at least one yes clue and at least one either-or, so both moves get practiced. The teacher checks that a tick brought its four crosses with it.

A one-sheet color print with the mark legend in the corner. Say each clue's kind aloud before marking, yes, no, or either-or, until the child does it unprompted. The three clues, one answer page is the base with no clues only; the true or false page reads a solved grid, and the picture clue page at first grade takes the sentences away.
