Beginning Sounds Worksheet
Beginning Sounds with Activities — Letter B
Here the target letter is B, and the child circles the action pictures that begin with its sound. They say a picture — baking — stretch out its first sound, and decide whether it matches B. The scene mixes running, jumping and swimming, so the ear has to work: baking and baseball begin with B while the rest do not. Hearing the opening sound, not spotting a letter shape, is the whole game.
The Kindergarten skill here is letter-sound correspondence: knowing the sound B makes and recognizing it at the start of a spoken word. Finding baking and baseball trains it without any reading — the child works from the pictures and says each word aloud. Tying the sound at the front of baking to the letter B, again and again, builds the habit that blending and decoding will later rely on.
A child who hears that baking opens with the B sound is doing real reading groundwork, one picture at a time. Keep going with the C-sound pictures in activities, or the D-sound pictures in activities. The full action pictures collection and every beginning-sounds worksheet are free to print or play online for kindergarten, and every first sound a child catches builds toward sounding out whole words later. One last pass: name each action pictures picture in turn, catch its opening sound, and keep only the ones that start the way B does.
