Beginning Sounds — Match the First Letter Sound

About this activity

A single letter appears — like D, F, or M — and the child taps the picture whose name begins with that letter's sound, choosing from familiar groups such as animals, food, and everyday objects (a dog, a fish, a moose, a tiger). It's a free Kindergarten phonics activity that runs right in the browser with nothing to install and no account.

Each round shows one correct picture and three that start with other sounds, so the child cannot guess — they have to say each picture's name and listen for the very first sound. Connecting the letter D to the /d/ at the start of 'dog' is the core letter-sound link, and hearing it against fish, rabbit, and tiger makes that first sound stand out clearly.
