About this activity

A ten-frame shows a group of animal counters and asks one simple question: how many? The child counts the animals — anywhere from 0 to 10 — and types the matching numeral on the keypad. It's an interactive Kindergarten counting activity that runs right in the browser, with nothing to install and no account.

This is the answering side of counting. Instead of building a number, the child reads a quantity that is already there and names it with a written number. Because the counters sit in the two rows of a ten-frame, a child can begin to recognize amounts at a glance — a full top row is five, a full frame is ten — and check by counting one by one. That move from counting to a single written numeral is the heart of cardinality.
