A telescope in Finnish is a far-tube: KAUKOPUTKI

KAUKOPUTKI is a telescope. Taken apart it is kauko, far, and putki, a tube: a far-tube. Finnish tends to build its long words out of plain everyday pieces rather than borrowing from Greek, and the long ones stop being frightening the moment a child can see the seam. KAUKOPUTKI is one of six space words buried in this letter grid, and the picture beside each entry says which is which.

The others are AURINKO, the sun, RAKETTI, a rocket, KOMEETTA, a comet, then ASTEROIDI and SATURNUS. Three of those come near enough to English to be recognised at a glance, which makes a gentle way in; AURINKO and KAUKOPUTKI have to be learned properly.
