The German words for things around the house, hidden in letters

COUCH is the free gift on this sheet: spelled as we spell it, meaning what we mean. BANK is the trap, because it looks like the place money lives and in German it is a bench. The other four have to be learned outright — SCHRANK a cupboard, SPIEGEL a mirror, KISSEN a cushion, and KINDERBETT a cot. Each has its picture, so the meanings arrive with the words.

KINDERBETT runs to ten letters and is made of two: kinder, children, and bett, bed. A child's bed. German assembles nouns like this constantly, and a beginner who learns to break a long one in half will read far more of them than one who tries to swallow each whole. It is also, for that reason, the fastest word to find here — nothing else on the grid is anywhere near as long.
