Parts of the Body: Color by Legend

Kindergarten Science — The Human Body (readiness) PDF only Aligned standard — coming soon

Five legend rows stack down the left of this kindergarten page. Each one shows a coloured swatch, an arrow and a body-part word: yellow for hair, brown for arms, pink for legs, red for feet and green for hands. To the right stands the same line-drawn child used across the family, this time with no fill at all, so every named region is a closed white area waiting for a crayon. The child reads a row, finds the matching region and colours it in that colour.

Nothing is written on this page, which makes it the one face of the body family a child can do before they can spell. It still asks for reading: the colour word and the part word both have to be decoded, and the two are joined only by an arrow. Three of the five named regions come in pairs on the figure, so hands, arms and feet each have to be coloured twice, which quietly makes the same point the counting sheet makes out loud.

One sheet, five colours, eight regions. Crayons work better than markers here because the outlines are thin. This is the pre-writing face of the body family: pair it with the labelling page for a child who is close to writing, or give it on its own as a first meeting with the six words.
