Read the Calendar: A Busy Month with Five Questions

Grade 2 Measurement & Data Aligned standard — coming soon

August 2025 begins on a Friday, which is why it needs six rows and ends with the 31st sitting alone on the bottom line. That crowded shape is the point of this 2nd grade calendar worksheet. Three stickers are scattered across the month, a stack of blocks, a pair of playing cards and a die, and five questions follow beneath the grid: the weekday of the 29th, how many Mondays the month holds, the date the blocks sit on, the date one week after the 10th, and how many days lie between the blocks and the die.

Two of these five questions cannot be answered by reading a single cell. One week after the 10th is the classic calendar insight, because the answer is the cell directly below rather than seven cells counted forward, and the child who has understood the grid finds it instantly while the child who has not counts along the row and wraps around. The days between question is harder still: it spans three weeks and two stickers, and it can be solved by counting cells, by counting whole weeks and adding the remainder, or by subtracting the dates. All three are correct and each says something different about where the child is.

Print the PDF free and ask for the two hard questions to be answered with a finger on the grid before the pencil, so the route is visible. Marking the two sticker dates in pencil first makes the between question far less slippery. The first look version is the same page shape with four questions, two stickers and a shorter month, and is the one to hand out if the six-row grid causes trouble by itself. The days of the week version drills weekday reading alone.
