Easy Symmetry Drawing: First Mirror Pictures

The four pictures on this Grade 2 page are the small, forgiving ones: a handful of colored squares each, sitting close to the coral mirror line down the middle. Half of every picture is already drawn; the child colors the missing half, square by square, until the two sides match. Short distances from the line and simple outlines make this the gentlest page in the whole symmetry set.

Easy figures deserve a page of their own because they let the method be taught rather than merely survived. Put a finger on a colored square, count the steps sideways to the line, count the same number of steps out the other side, color it in. On a small figure that count is one or two, so the routine is learned before it has to carry any weight — and a child who finishes four pictures that genuinely look right arrives at the harder sheet believing they can do this, which matters more than most of the geometry does.
