Find the Differences Worksheet
Write What Is Different: One Sentence per Difference
Two pictures of an elephant under a tree sit side by side, with three changes between them, and under them run two word strips: six nouns from the picture (tree, elephant, bird, sun, flower, cloud) and seven change words (missing, bigger, smaller, moved, flipped, new, changed). Three ruled lines each begin with the printed starter In picture 2, and the child completes one sentence per difference by taking a noun from the first strip and a change word from the second. This grade-2 page is the writing page of the find-the-differences family.
Describing a difference in a sentence makes the child name both the thing and what happened to it: In picture 2, the cloud is missing. The strips supply the spelling so the effort goes into the comparison and the sentence, not into guessing letters. A difference may be something that is gone, which is why the word missing is on the strip and the instruction says so.
The answer key rings the three changes with numbers; the tap screen asks the child to tap the differences before writing. Its sibling What Changed? Tick the Words asks for the same judgement with ticks instead of sentences, a year earlier. These pages compare two pictures of one scene; picture writing, mirror drawing and colouring by number have pages of their own.
