ABC Order Worksheet
ABC Order: Number Four Fruit Cards 1 to 4
Four fruit cards, four dashed circles and no writing lines at all. This 1st grade abc order page prints the alphabet a to z in tinted cells across the top, then scatters persimmon, banana, watermelon and mango below it at slight angles, each with its word under the picture and a small orange circle in the corner. The child runs a finger along the strip, decides which word comes first, and writes 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the circles. That is the entire task.
Cutting the writing out is what makes this the entry point of the family. Ordering and copying are two different jobs, and a child who can do the first but not yet the second finishes this page having done the thinking. The four first letters here - b, m, p, w - are spread wide across the alphabet, so no comparison is close and the strip answers every question directly. Numbering in pencil also means a change of mind costs one rubbed-out digit.
Print the PDF free and have the child touch each word's first letter on the strip before writing anything. Check the circles, not the neatness. When four spaced letters are ordered without hesitation, the number them then write them version adds four lines to copy onto, and the same first letter version brings in two pairs that share a starting letter and have to be split on the second. The write the word page supplies the spelling all three rely on.
