Fix the Sentence: Capital Letters and Punctuation Practice

This 2nd grade fix the sentence worksheet gives the child five broken sentences about vehicles, each in its own lane with a small picture beside it: tom rides the bus with lily, max washes the red truck. Every sentence has lost its opening capital, its end mark, and the capital letters on the names inside it. A dashed checklist at the top shows the three things to look for — Capital letter, Names, End mark — and under each sentence is a wide handwriting rule where the child rewrites it correctly from start to finish.

Editing is easier to learn on somebody else's sentence than on your own, because the child is not attached to it. With the words already in the right order, all the attention goes to the mechanics: the first letter, the period, and the capitals that names carry wherever they appear. Copying the whole sentence out again, rather than circling errors, means the correct version passes through the child's hand, which is how the habit moves into their own writing. The teacher checks the names first; the opening capital and the period are usually caught, and the lowercase name in the middle of a sentence is the one that gets through.

Print the PDF free and have the child tick each checklist item after every sentence until the checks become automatic. The easier version has four lanes with only the opening capital and period missing; the harder version keeps five lanes but mixes in questions, so the child must choose between a period and a question mark rather than adding a period by habit.
