Maze Puzzle

Collect the Carrots: Help the Rabbit Pick Every Carrot

Grade 1 Spatial reasoning (readiness) Aligned standard — coming soon

A green vegetable garden fills this page, crossed by stone paths. A rabbit starts at the green circle, and a yellow bucket waits at the other end. Four carrots lie on the stone paths between the beds, each on a white circle, and the strip under the garden shows a carrot, the number 4 and four empty circles to tick. A snail, a caterpillar, a lettuce, a pumpkin and a watering can sit in the grass. The paths join up in loops, so there are many ways to reach the bucket.

Reaching the bucket is easy here; the challenge is reaching it with all four carrots and without walking any path twice. The shortest way to the bucket misses carrots, so the child has to plan a longer route that visits each one. That is planning with several goals at once, a step beyond an ordinary maze where only the end matters. Ticking a circle for each carrot as the line passes it gives a simple self-check: four ticks and the bucket means the job is done.

The page prints as a PDF, works as a screen version where the child drags the rabbit's way and presses Check (a missed carrot is circled in red), and comes with an answer key showing the one way that collects every carrot. In the same family, the polar bear maze turns the rule around: there the child must avoid things instead of collecting them. These are picture mazes with a story; square-grid mazes, dot-to-dot and word sorting have their own pages.
