Cut and Paste Vehicles: Sort Them into Their Boxes

This edition of the cut and paste worksheet hands everything over to vehicles. Along the bottom of the page runs a strip of vehicle pictures — the child cuts the strip apart, looks hard at each machine, decides which of the picture-headed boxes it belongs in, and glues it down onto a dashed square. A glue stick and child-safe scissors are the only equipment. Cutting, deciding, pasting: the same beloved routine as the animal page, but with wheels and wings doing the persuading.

For a certain kind of four-year-old, vehicles are simply the strongest magnet there is, and this page borrows that pull shamelessly. The sorting is also a touch more abstract than it looks: a truck and a plane do not differ the way a cow and a fish do, so the child has to reason about what things do and where they go — road or sky, big or small — rather than just what they look like. That shift from appearance to function is a genuine step in early classification thinking, smuggled in under the fun.
