About this activity
Before children measure with rulers and numbers, they learn to compare things just by looking. In this free activity, two pictures of the same object appear side by side at clearly different sizes, and children simply tap the taller, the shorter, or the longer one. There is no counting at all — the whole point is to compare a single measurable attribute, like height or length, directly.
Keeping both pictures to the same object is deliberate. When a child compares a tall pine with a short pine, or a long pencil with a short one, the only thing that changes is the size, so the comparison stays pure and clear. This is exactly the kind of direct, side-by-side comparison that builds a child's sense of measurement long before any tool is involved.
The activity is aligned to Common Core K.MD.A.2 — directly comparing two objects with a measurable attribute in common and describing which has more or less of it. Children work at their own pace with gentle, immediate feedback, and there is no timer and no score, so comparing sizes stays a calm, confidence-building game.

How to play
Children look at two pictures of the same object shown at different sizes and read or listen to the prompt.
They tap the one that is taller, shorter, or longer, depending on what the prompt asks.
A warm check confirms a correct choice and offers an easy retry when needed.
