Cut and Paste: Eight Pictures, Two Big Groups

This cut and paste worksheet doubles the workload in the happiest possible way: eight pictures arrive on two cutting strips instead of one, and every picture must find its home in one of two big groups, each headed by a model picture rather than a word. It comes in two editions — one starring animals, one starring vehicles — and the job is identical in both: cut the strips apart, study each picture, decide which group it belongs to, and glue it into place.

Two groups may sound easier than three, but a clean either-or is actually the purest sorting there is: every picture forces a real decision, with no soft middle category to hide in. Eight pieces also stretch the task — more cutting per sitting, more gluing, and a genuine sequence to manage, since loose strips have a way of migrating across the table. Letting the child cut both strips before any sorting begins, then sort all eight before the glue comes out, turns the page into a small lesson in organizing work as well as in classification.
