Count Back from 20: Every Dot Numbered, Nothing Pre-Drawn

Nothing is printed inside the panel on this 1st grade dot-to-dot except twenty dots, and every single one of them is numbered. The count starts at 20, ringed in orange near the top of the page, and works down through 19, 18, 17 to a lone dot 1 at the bottom, with no grey outline anywhere to lean on. Every line in the finished picture comes from the child's pencil. Underneath the panel the counting strip runs 20, 19, 18 and on to 1 across two rows, which is the only backwards sequence written out on the sheet.

Counting back from twenty is a first grade job rather than a kindergarten one, and the two things that make it hard sit right next to each other here. Crossing the teens downward is the first, because twenty, nineteen, eighteen has none of the rhythm that carries the forward count. Passing ten is the second, and it is where a child who has been reciting rather than counting will stop dead. With no outline printed, the picture cannot form itself out of a half-remembered sequence; if a number is skipped the line goes somewhere obviously wrong and stays there. That makes the finished sheet unusually easy to read at a glance.

Count back from 10 is the shorter version with half the outline already drawn, dot to dot 1-20 runs the same twenty dots forwards, and count by twos steps through the same range two numbers at a time.
