Fact Family Worksheet
Fact Family Houses: Four Facts from Three Numbers
This Grade 1 fact families worksheet builds four little houses, each with three numbers sitting on its triangular roof. Those three numbers are a family — like 3, 5, and 8 — and the child's job is to write the four related facts that live inside the house: two additions and two subtractions, all made from the very same trio. Four houses, sixteen facts, one satisfying pattern.
Fact families teach one of arithmetic's most powerful secrets: addition and subtraction undo each other. A child who sees that 3 + 5 = 8 also carries 8 − 5 = 3 in their pocket suddenly owns twice as many facts with no extra memorizing — and, more importantly, starts thinking in relationships instead of isolated sums. The house-and-roof picture keeps the trio visually anchored while the child works, which is exactly the support first graders need while the idea is new.
Print the PDF free and talk through the first house together — once the pattern clicks, children usually race through the rest. Mental math within 20 is the perfect companion page for putting those related facts to work at speed, and picture word problems show where the whole family turns up in real-life stories.
