Sight Words: Read, Trace, and Write

This Kindergarten sight words worksheet gives the child four high-frequency words and a simple three-step job for each: read the word aloud, trace it on the dashed model, then write it all by themselves on the empty line. That read–trace–write sequence keeps eyes, voice, and hand all working on the same word, one line at a time, until each of the four words has been read, traced, and written.

Sight words are the little glue words — the ones that appear on nearly every page a child will ever read, and often the very ones that refuse to follow phonics rules. Moving them into instant memory matters because a reader who no longer sounds out common words has attention left over for what the sentence actually means. Saying the word anchors it in the ear, tracing anchors it in the hand, and writing it from memory proves it is starting to stick.

Print the PDF free and treat it as a repeatable routine rather than a one-off: four words at a time is exactly the right dose. Capital letter tracing makes a good companion sheet while letter formation is still growing, and a short read-and-answer story is the perfect place for the child to meet their new words out in the wild.
