Sight Words Set 3: Here, Come, Little, Down

Set 3 of the sight-word series brings four new words to read, trace and write: here, come, little and down. The routine on the page stays reassuringly the same — each word sits on its own row of handwriting lines, printed once in dashed letters for tracing and followed by an empty line where the child writes it from memory — because by set 3, it is the words that should feel new, not the job.

These four are movement-and-place words, and they unlock a huge share of early picture-book text: come here, little dog, sit down. Two of them are also phonics traps — come refuses to rhyme with home, and here refuses to match her — which makes them perfect candidates for whole-word memory. A useful trick at this stage: after the writing, ask the child to hunt for today's words in any book on the shelf. Finding little in the wild, unprompted, is the moment a sight word becomes real.
