Tangram Worksheet
Tangram Puzzles: Cut Out the Pieces and Build Two Figures
The top of this kindergarten tangram page is a square cut into the seven classic pieces, with a small scissors mark at its corner and every cut drawn as a line. Beside it sits a five-row legend: a red, a blue, a yellow, a green and an orange swatch, each next to one piece shape. Below, two figures are drawn at exactly the same size as the cut-out set and with their own seams showing, so every piece can be laid straight on to its place. The sheet shown carries a fox and a plain rectangle.
This is the materials page of the family, and the seams are what make it a kindergarten page rather than a puzzle. A child who cannot yet picture how a shape breaks apart can still match an edge to a printed edge, and the colouring step gives the pieces names before any of them is moved. Note that the legend has five rows for seven pieces: the two large triangles share a colour and so do the two small ones, because the legend sorts by shape, not by count.
One sheet, seven pieces, two figures. Print it on card if you want the set to survive the week, and colour before cutting so the pieces are easy to sort. This is the page the rest of the tangram family assumes you already have: the shadows, the missing-piece and the matching sheets all expect a cut set on the table.
