Word Tracing Worksheet
Trace Words in Capital Letters: APPLE, MANGO, PEAR
Every letter on this Kindergarten word tracing page is a capital. Three fruits sit in cream cards down the left edge, an apple, a mango and a pear, and beside each one the name is printed three times over: once in solid teal block capitals on the top line, once beneath it in dashed capitals to be traced, and once as an empty rule where the word is written unaided. APPLE, MANGO, PEAR. Nothing here runs past five letters, and the glyphs are drawn large enough that a five-year-old can follow a stroke without losing it.
Block capitals are built from straight lines and plain curves, which is why several handwriting schemes teach them first. There are no ascenders to judge, nothing hangs below the line, and every letter is the same height, so a child who cannot yet keep lowercase b and d apart has none of that difficulty here. The word is still the unit, though: the letters have to come in order and stay evenly spaced, and the solid model directly above the dashed copy gives the eye something correct to check against at every stroke. Watch whether the traced word and the written word are the same size. Height drifting downward across a row is the usual tell.
Print the PDF free and use a sharp pencil rather than a marker, so the dashed guides stay visible underneath the strokes. Three words is a short session, which is what a first sheet of capitals should be. Trace and write words runs the same three-line block in lowercase if that is the hand your class is learning, and copy the capitals is the step up from here: the same block letters with the dashed lane taken away and only the card label left as a model.
