1st Grade Treasure Hunts

Every child loves a treasure hunt, and these treasure hunt worksheets for 1st grade turn that thrill into path-following practice. The page is a grid map dotted with pictures, and a row of simple directions -- go up, go down, go left, go right -- leads from a starting square to the hidden treasure. The child reads the first direction, moves one square that way, reads the next, and keeps going until the path lands right on the prize. Working out which square is up and which is to the left is real spatial-orientation practice.

For first graders the paths run a little longer and twistier than a kindergarten version, so a child has to hold the sequence, track their place on the grid, and follow several steps in order without losing the thread.
