Beginning Sounds Worksheet
Beginning Sounds with Easter — Letter L
Say it, hear the start, match the letter L. The child looks over the Easter things on this sheet and circles each one that begins with L's sound — lily and lamb. Because lily opens with that sound, it gets marked; pictures that begin another way do not. Catching the first sound of a spoken word and tying it to a letter is the heart of Kindergarten phonics, practised here across a scene of an egg, a bunny and a basket.
Producing the match — deciding that lily begins with L — asks a child to do real phonics: hold the sound L makes in mind and test each picture's opening against it. Because the Easter things include names that begin other ways, the child cannot guess; they have to listen. That careful sound-by-sound checking against the letter L is precisely what Kindergarten reading is built on.
Hunting a scene of Easter things for the letter L is the kind of quiet phonics that adds up fast. After L, keep the listening going with the B-sound pictures in easter, or the C-sound pictures in easter. The whole Easter things collection and every beginning-sounds sheet print cleanly or play free online for kindergarten — and the more opening sounds a child sorts, the more automatic the sound-to-letter link becomes.
