Days of the Week Worksheet
Days of the Week: Abbreviations
Seven short forms run down the left of this first-grade days-and-months page in week order, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, each in a white box with an orange dot beside it. Down the right side the full day names sit in cream boxes, scrambled so that no short form lines up with its own name: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Thursday, Monday, Sunday, Tuesday. The child reads a short form, finds the day it stands for, and draws a line from dot to dot. Seven lines finish the page; nothing is written.
Three-letter day abbreviations are everywhere a child looks, on the classroom calendar, a phone, a bus timetable, and this page makes them a reading task rather than something to absorb by accident. Because the short forms are in week order, the child can also use the sequence as a check: if Thu has been matched to Tuesday, the lines will cross where they should not. The teacher watches Tue and Thu, the pair that shares a first letter, and Sat and Sun, which share two.
A one-sheet print with no color needed and no writing lines, so it suits a child whose handwriting is still slow. Use it once the days of the week in order page is easy, and pair it with a look at the real calendar to find the same short forms. The yesterday, today, tomorrow page and the missing days page are the writing-heavy siblings in this family.
