Fact Family Houses to 20: Six Roofs to Fill

Six houses fill this Grade 1 page, and the trios on their roofs now reach into the teens — 9, 8 and 17, or 6, 14 and 20. Beneath each roof stand the four facts those three numbers make, two additions and two subtractions, every line ending in an empty box. Six houses means twenty-four answers on a single sheet, and the numbers are large enough that none of them can be guessed at a glance.

This is the progression page, and both of the things that changed matter. Larger numbers push the child past the facts they can simply see and into the teens, where addition and subtraction genuinely have to be worked out; six houses instead of four turns the exercise from a demonstration into practice with real volume behind it. That combination is what moves fact families from something we did in a lesson to a tool the child actually reaches for. It also rehearses crossing ten, over and over, inside a task that never once mentions it.
