Letter Tracing M to R: Points, Bumps and Loops

This letter tracing worksheet covers the heart of the alphabet: the capitals M, N, O, P, Q and R. Each letter sits on a handwriting line as a row of dashed models to trace, and each row ends with an empty space where the child writes that capital with no help at all. The set walks the pencil through three very different jobs — the sharp up-down-up-down of M and N, the single smooth circle of O, and the stick-plus-bump builds of P, Q and R.

Sorting letters by how they are built is one of the most useful things a handwriting page can do, and this stretch of the alphabet sorts itself beautifully. M and N are pure zigzag — the pencil never leaves the paper, it just changes direction at the peaks. O is the round family in its purest form. P, R and Q each start from something simple and add one feature: P hangs a bump on a stick, R hangs the bump and kicks out a leg, Q draws an O and gives it a tail. When a child notices these family resemblances — and tracing them back to back makes that almost automatic — new letters stop being six separate mysteries and become variations on moves the hand already owns.
