Singular and Plural Worksheet
One and Many: First Words with Bat, Fox and Koala
Bat, fox, koala. Three rows, three animals, and one idea repeated three times on this Kindergarten singular and plural page. The left half of each row shows a single animal with a green badge reading 1 and its name printed in solid teal beneath. The right half shows the same animal twice with a badge reading 2, the plural word in dashed letters below, and an empty line under that. Two pills at the top hold the rule: 1 for one, 2 or 3 for many.
Three rows is a short page on purpose. A child meeting plurals for the first time needs to see the same thing happen more than once before it becomes a rule, and three is enough for that without the writing becoming the obstacle. Two of the words simply take an s - bats, koalas - and the third, fox, takes es, which is the first hint that the ending is not always the same letter. The pictures multiply while only the end of the word changes.
Print the PDF free and say each pair aloud before the pencil moves: one bat, two bats. If the child writes the plural on the empty line without glancing back at the dashed model, the ending has moved from tracing into use. The longer words version keeps the same layout but uses four rows of longer vehicle names and groups of three. The trace and write words page is the warm-up if writing a whole word is still hard work.
