Find the Differences Worksheet
Mirror Pictures: Find the Differences, Then Fold to Check
Picture 2 on this page is flipped like a mirror, and there are two scenes to compare. A fox in the forest sits in the top row and a rabbit in the same forest in the bottom row; each picture 1 stands on the left and its mirror image on the right, with one dashed fold line running down the middle of the page. The flip itself is not a difference: two things are still changed inside each mirrored picture, four in all, and they may be a thing that is gone, something swapped for another, something bigger or smaller. Four tick boxes sit under the bottom right picture. When the child has circled four things, folding the page along the line lays each picture over its twin, and holding it to the light shows where they disagree. This is the grade-1 mirror page of the find-the-differences family.
Comparing a scene with its mirror image asks a child to map left to right in the head, the same move that tells b from d and p from q. Everything is in the expected place once the flip is understood; the four real changes are hidden inside that extra step. The fold is the self-check, so the page marks itself before an adult sees it.
The answer key rings the four changes and ticks the boxes; the tap screen shows each scene with its mirrored picture below it and asks the child to tap each real change. These pages compare two pictures of one scene; the symmetry pages, where a child draws the other half of a picture, and colouring by number have pages of their own.
