Singular and Plural Worksheet
Singular and Plural: One Fruit and Many Fruits
This Kindergarten singular and plural worksheet works through four fruits, one per row. On the left of each row sits a single fruit — a lime, a kiwi, an avocado, a pear — with its word printed in solid letters underneath and a small badge showing the number 1. On the right the same fruit appears two or three times, tipped at slight angles as if rolled out of a bowl, with the plural word in dashed letters below and an empty line beneath that. The child reads the word for one, traces the word for many, then writes the plural once more without help. Two pills at the top of the page, 1 · one and 2 · 3 · many, keep the rule in view.
The page teaches one idea with no exceptions on it: when there is more than one, the word grows an ending. Every plural here is regular, so the child sees that limes is lime with an s and avocados is avocado with an s, and nothing else changes. Seeing the pictures multiply while only the end of the word changes makes the ending meaningful rather than arbitrary. The teacher is watching for the moment the child writes the plural on the empty line and remembers to add the s without looking back at the dashed model — that is the ending moving from tracing into use.
Print the PDF free and have the child say each pair aloud, one pear, three pears, before writing. The easier level has three rows and shorter words; the harder level keeps four rows but brings in longer fruit names and the second regular ending, es, on words like peaches. The trace and write words page is the natural warm-up if the child still needs a full model of every word, and the a or an page carries on with the small words that sit in front of a noun.
