About this activity

An analog clock shows its minute marks and an exact time like 3:23, 7:47, 10:08, or 12:41, and the child reads the hands and taps the matching digital time from three choices. The challenge is reading past the nearest five: the child finds the closest five-minute mark by counting in fives, then counts the small ticks on to the exact minute, so the long hand just past the 4 reads 23, not 20. The wrong choices sit only a minute or two away, so estimating to the nearest five is not enough — the child has to read the precise minute. This is the most exact clock reading in the elementary grades.
