Sorting is one of the first real thinking moves a young child makes, and these picture sorting worksheets for kindergarten give plenty of practice at it. Each page mixes two kinds of pictures together -- say a handful of animals jumbled in with a handful of birds -- and asks the child to put each one where it belongs. Deciding which group a picture fits is early classifying: the child notices what makes things alike or different and groups them by that idea. There is no counting, just looking and grouping.
