Teen Number Tracing 11 to 20

This tracing worksheet is all two-digit work: the teen numbers 11 to 20, each written in its own wide lane built for a pair of digits. The child starts every digit on its orange dot, follows the arrows, and traces the two numerals of each teen number side by side — the 1 first, then its partner. Ten lanes, ten teen numbers, every one of them a small exercise in keeping two digits straight, even and in the right order.

Teen numbers are famously slippery, and English is partly to blame: we say "fourteen" but write the 1 first, so children who spell the word with their ears write 41. Tracing the teens in full — always the 1 on the left, always the partner digit on the right — attacks that confusion with the hand instead of a lecture. Lane after lane, the child physically rehearses the truth that every teen number is a ten and some more: the leading 1 is the ten, the second digit counts the extras. That is place value sneaking in through handwriting practice, months before anyone calls it place value.
