Trace and Write the Numbers 0 to 9

This trace-and-write worksheet runs through all ten digits, 0 to 9, and adds the step that turns tracing into real writing: at the end of each row, after the dashed models, there is an empty space where the child writes the numeral entirely on their own. The jump from tracing to writing alone is the whole point of numeral practice, and it is easy to postpone forever. A child can trace beautifully for weeks and still freeze in front of a blank space, because tracing borrows the shape from the page while writing must pull it from memory. The empty slot on every row makes the handover happen ten times per sheet, in the gentlest possible way: the child has just traced the digit seconds earlier, so the shape is warm in the hand when the blank arrives. It also gives an adult an instant, honest reading of which digits have truly landed — the freshly written numeral tells the truth in a way traced dashes never can.
