Span's Length Gap — How Much Longer? (Grade 2)

About this activity

Span the inchworm shows two labeled bars with their lengths in centimeters — a ribbon 8 cm beside a string 5 cm — and the child works out how much LONGER the longer one is, then types the difference on the keypad. It's a free, interactive Grade 2 measurement activity that runs in the browser with no account.

The skill is finding the difference between two measurements, which is subtraction wearing a measurement hat. The child reads both lengths, decides which is longer, and figures the gap (8 and 5 means 3 centimeters longer). Keeping the lengths visible as bars helps the child see the extra piece they are measuring, so the answer is grounded in a picture and not just a number sentence.

It is aligned to Common Core 2.MD.A.4 — measuring to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressed in a standard length unit. No timer, no score — just calm, playful practice.
