About this activity

Children read a short word problem — 20 red tulips and 30 yellow tulips, a shelf of 45 books, ducks arriving at a pond — see it laid out as a number bond, then type the missing number. It's a free, interactive Grade 2 math activity that plays right in the browser with no account.

The number bond turns every story into the same picture: two parts and a whole. That lets the child see whether the unknown is the total, a part that is left over, or a starting amount.
